Mayor Gray, Maryland and Virginia Governors to Hold Meeting on WMATA
Regional Leaders Will Discuss Governance and Safety-Related Issues
WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, Virginia Governor Robert F. McDonnell, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Board Chair Catherine Hudgins, WMATA CEO and General Manager Richard Sarles and transportation executives from the three jurisdictions will meet to discuss governance and safety-related issues involving WMATA. The meeting will be closed to the media, but the leaders will speak to the media immediately following the meeting.

BACKGROUND: WMATA is the regional agency that provides mass transit via Metrorail, Metrobus and MetroAccess to residents, commuters and visitors in the Washington metropolitan region. The governments of the District of Columbia, the State of Maryland and the Commonwealth of Virginia all provide support and oversight to WMATA through funding and the appointment of members to WMATA’s board of directors.
