State of the Schools Meetings 2011

Collaborate to Create

State of the Schools Meetings will take place in every ward during the last half of the 2010-2011 school year. They are co-sponsored with the DC Councilmember in each ward and planned collaboratively with community partners and DCPS staff.

The action starts with a planning meeting that includes community partners and Council and DCPS staff. They identify issues, meeting formats, potential ways to follow up on topics after the meeting.

In general, meetings have two parts:

- a mini-expo: each DCPS school in the ward will have a table to provide parents, and potential parents with material on school performance, academic programs, strengths, and more. Principals and the presidents of schools’ parent organizations will be there to chat and answer questions

- a town hall discussion focused on high-priority topics (identified by the planning committee and the parents in attendance) and on collaborative problem-solving.
