Chancellors Parent Cabinet
The Chancellor’s Parent Cabinet will serve as a mechanism for parent leaders to directly inform the Chancellor around system wide policies affecting schools. Members will be parents who have at least one child in DCPS (we are open to the consideration of prospective DCPS parents) and who are reflective of the diversity of the DCPS community. Meetings will include the Chancellor, members, and key DCPS staff.
What is the structure of the Parent Cabinet?
The Parent Cabinet will be comprised of 16-24 parents who will serve as volunteers.
What is the process for parents interested in serving on the Parent Cabinet?
Parents must submit a written application answering 3 questions. They can apply the following ways:

DCPS parents, principals and staff can also nominate parents for the Parent Cabinet by completing an application and emailing Jennifer.Skates@dc.gov. ALL applications and nominations are due Friday, February 14, 2014, at 11:59pm. Select parents will be allowed to apply in person at DCPS Central Office. In-person application interviews will be scheduled in advance (no walk-ins).
How will Parent Cabinet members be chosen to serve?
To ensure broad representation, the applications and nominations will be evaluated on a variety of factors, including place of residence to reflect broad representation across the city, child’s grade level and school community, and areas of interest and experience. We are particularly interested in parents who are willing to share feedback gleaned from Parent Cabinet meetings with other families.
When will the Parent Cabinet meetings be held?
The Parent Cabinet will meet monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of each month for one full year with a launch date of March 19, 2014; 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The meetings will be located at 1200 First Street, NE.
What will be expected of the Parent Cabinet?
Parent Cabinet members will be expected to:
-Attend all scheduled meetings.
-Prepare for each meeting as needed.
-Work in a collaborative manner with each other and with DCPS staff.
-Express views and opinions in an open, constructive, and respectful manner.
-Share information with and on behalf of peers.
