Brent Elementary's Rube Goldberg Society brought together 12 students from first through fourth grade for 10 weeks of exploration and invention.
Students collaborated to create a Rube Goldberg machine, a contraption meant to perform a simple task in a complicated series of steps. Students watched videos of other Rube Goldberg machines, including the band OKGO’s video for their song “This Too Shall Pass,” which features an incredible Rube Goldberg machine.
Students collaborated in teams to create machines out of dominoes, PVC pipe, wood, appliances and toys. At the end of the 10 weeks they assembled their creations into one giant machine. Professional documentary filmmaker, Harry Hanbury, donated his time to create a 3 minute video featuring the machine in action as well as interviews with students and parents about their work.
