Success is spelled DCPS at the 2011 Citywide Spelling Bee
April 7, 2011 - Thirty DCPS students participated in the 2011 Citywide Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 19, 2011. The Spelling Bee was sponsored by The Washington Informer and televised by NBC4 Washington, DC with Aaron Gilchrist and Kimberly Suiters serving as co-hosts for the event.
Tuli Bennett-Rose, a 6th student at Oyster-Adams, came in second place at the 2011 Citywide Spelling Bee. She received a trophy, donated by Champion Trophy; weekend brunch for four at Courtyard Marriott - Convention Center, donated by The Peebles Corporation; a check for $500, donated by Jack H. Olender and Associates; Washington nationals tickets; an invitation to be honored at Home Plate of a Nationals game including a meet and greet with a player and Screech; and a Washington Informer gift bag.
Justin Atwood, a 5th grade student at Murch Elementary School, came in third place. He received a trophy, donated by Champion Trophy; a check for $300, donated by Jack H. Olender and Associates; Washington nationals tickets; an invitation to be honored at Home Plate of a Nationals game including a meet and greet with a player and Screech; and a Washington Informer gift bag.
Donovan Jordan, a 6th grader from Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science, won first place and will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in June.
