More than fifteen chefs volunteered their time to read and distribute brand new books to children of Garfield Elementary School. It is reported that children living in poverty have less than two age appropriate books in their home libraries. Garfield’s school population falls into this category with 94% of children qualifying for the free and reduced lunch program.

Proceeds from the benefit Sweet Charity provided the funds for the chefs to distribute 650 brand new books for students to take home and fifty brand new library books.

The chef’s participation in Sweet Charity allows The Heart of America Foundation® to make a difference in under resourced schools such as Garfield Elementary.
