What is the DCPS High School Online Application?

The DCPS High School Online Application is an online, web-based, application that incoming 9th and 10th students will use to apply to Specialized Citywide High Schools for the 2012-2013 school-year. The DCPS High School Online Application will allow students to submit “common” information required by all schools only once, for all schools for which they wish to apply.

Before using the DCPS High School Online Application, please read:

Applications will only be available online; no paper applications will be accepted by schools.

*This page is available in Spanish, French, Chinese and Amharic.*

How does the DCPS High School Online Application work?

  • Students submit one application for the schools they are applying to and each individual school will receive a copy of the application.
  • Teachers can complete or upload letters of recommendation that can be accessed by all schools.
  • The application will be due January 6, 2012.
  • Schools will go through the regular review and selection process which may include requests for supplementary materials or auditions.
  • On March 26, 2012, students will be sent one notification letter about which schools they have or have not been accepted. Students and families will also be able to log back into the system to view their results.

How many specialized schools can I apply to?

You may apply to as many specialized schools as you like! There is no limit to the number of schools to which you may be accepted, nor is there a guarantee that you will be accepted to any of the schools.

What if the specialized school I am applying to requires additional materials?

In addition to the common portion of the application, some schools may require supplementary information, such as essays, questionnaires, interviews, and auditions. Students will be able to submit many supplementary materials online; however, the interviews and auditions will still be scheduled by, and held at, the individual schools.

How will I know which schools I am accepted to?

After the schools’ complete selection process, students will be sent a notification letter on March 26, 2012, letting them know which schools have accepted them or placed them on a waitlist. Students and parents will also be able to log back into the application system to view their results.

Do I need to use the DCPS High School Online Application if I want to attend a Comprehensive High School?

For this upcoming school year, you do not need to use the DCPS High School Online Application if you are applying to Anacostia, Ballou, Cardozo, Coolidge, Dunbar, Eastern, H.D. Woodson, Roosevelt, Spingarn or Wilson.

Please use the Out of Boundary Lottery to apply to any of the comprehensive schools to which you are considered “out of boundary.” If you are not sure what your destination, or “in boundary” school is, you may use the DCPS School Profiles website to find out.

Please note that the timeline for the Out of Boundary Lottery is different from the DCPS High School Online Application timeline.

Why is the process changing?

DCPS believes that by consolidating the application process and bringing it online, we are simplifying the process and making it easier for all DCPS students and families to take advantage of the opportunities at the DCPS specialized high schools.
