What is a Catalyst World Cultures school?

At World Cultures schools, your child will be encouraged and equipped to understand the cultural background of their peers, learning respect for diverse cultures. The study of world cultures through core subject areas, such as reading, social studies, science and math, prepares your students to be world citizens, able to participate and thrive in an increasingly diverse society.

Where are the Catalyst World Cultures schools within DCPS?

How will the experience of students at a Catalyst World Culture school be different than if they attended another school?

We seek to foster appreciation for cultural, linguistic, and ethnic diversity in students by exposing them to a curriculum that promotes critical thinking and a global perspective.

As part of their World Cultures program, the academic program promotes communicative and intercultural competence in a language other than English.

What are the benefits of a student attending a Catalyst World Culture school?

The study of world cultures and languages provides your child with knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are indispensable to becoming a global citizen. With today’s ever-increasing diversity in the classroom, workplace, and community, it is crucial that students gain a deep understanding of the cultural background of their fellow classmates and learn respect for diverse cultures.

According to the Center for Economic Development (CED), knowledge of foreign languages and cultures should no longer be considered specialized skills solely for experts. Whether students’ future endeavors are undertaken at home or abroad, knowledge of more than one culture will be a necessary and desirable tool for success.
