Celebrate DC Teachers

May 7 - May 11

Dear DCPS community members,

Today marks the start of National Teacher Appreciation Week, a time when school communities across the country will come together to honor the outstanding work of their teachers.

Here at DCPS, we are joining in the celebration through a variety of initiatives, and I want to encourage you to participate.

Here’s how you can help honor a teacher this week:

You can find more about all of the ways DCPS is celebrating our teachers – during Teacher Appreciation Week and beyond – on the Honoring Our Educators page of the DCPS website.

While DCPS is happy to join the rest of the country in celebrating teachers this week, our true objective is to create a system where teachers feel appreciated all year long. We know we still have a long way to go. This week is an opportunity for the DCPS community to say thank you to our teachers for working toward our common goal of creating the world-class educational system that we know our students deserve.

There is no more important job in the world than educating our students. Thank you for taking the time to help celebrate the great teachers of the DC Public Schools as they work to ensure a bright future for the children of the District of Columbia.

Sincerely,

Kaya Henderson

Chancellor
