Afterschool Programs for 2013-2014
Academics. Enrichment. Wellness.

DC Public Schools (DCPS) Afterschool Programs allow students to participate in academic and extracurricular enrichment activities and to develop new hobbies and skills. Community based organizations and DCPS teachers and aides provide a variety of unique programming options to students.
Participation in high-quality afterschool programming has been proven to improve school attendance, academic achievement, graduation rates and attitudes toward learning. Students attending three hours of afterschool programming each day gain the equivalent of nearly four months of learning time.
For the 2013-2014 school year, the DCPS Office of Out-of-School Time Programs (OSTP) Afterschool Program will be offered in 53 schools. For information on afterschool programming at other DCPS schools, please contact the school principal. The following information refers to the program offered at the 53 OSTP schools listed.

Afterschool Program Description
The OSTP afterschool program features an Academic Power Hour and enrichment programming focusing on arts, athletics, and community service.
Start Date: Please see the OSTP site list for your school's start date. Some schools will begin programming on the first day of school; some schools’ afterschool program will start on September 3rd (the Tuesday after Labor Day).
Program Hours: Dismissal to 6:00 p.m. on full schooldays
Food Provided: Supper will be provided to all students at no cost
No child will be permitted to begin programming until they are fully enrolled and have received a certification of enrollment.

Co-payment for the month of September is due at the time of enrollment. Co-payment may be paid using Visa, MasterCard, check, or money order. If a family owes any remaining co-pay balance from SY2012–13, it is also due at the time of enrollment and before your child may participate in the program.

Apply for a TANF Subsidy
Families who are income eligible and wish to apply for a TANF subsidy to participate for free or at a reduced cost must bring additional documentation when enrolling in afterschool. If you are applying for a subsidized copayment rate, you must bring proof of the following:
- Parent/guardian relationship to the student (Example: child’s birth certificate);
- Household income for all parents/guardians (Example: 3 consecutive paystubs); and
- D. C. residency (Example: gas or water bill dated within last 30 days).
If you already receive TANF benefits, please bring documentation of active TANF status dated within the last 30 days, with your current address, and which lists the child’s name. This type of TANF document meets all three of the documentation requirements.
