Clara Canty is the Instructional Superintendent for Cluster II, where she supports principals and staff in elementary schools.

Professional Experience
Prior to becoming an Instructional Superintendent, Ms. Canty served as a School Achievement Specialist for New Leaders for New Schools. Before joining New Leaders for New Schools, Ms. Canty was Vice President of Achievement, Discipline, and Design for Edison School Inc., where she provided direct support to seven principals along the East Coast.

In 1998 Ms. Canty became the founding principal of a DC charter school with 405 K-5 students, the majority of whom were eligible for free or reduced price lunch. As a result of leading one of the most rapidly improved schools in Washington, DC, she was twice nominated Charter School Principal of the Year. Ms. Canty has worked in DCPS in many capacities: classroom teacher, mentor teacher, consulting teacher, assistant principal, principal and principal coach. 

Education
Ms. Canty holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Howard University and a master's degree in teaching from Trinity University.
