July 26, 2011 - Four educators at Thomson ES are fighting summer brain drain through their Let's Go! summer program.

Speech pathologists Jennifer Williams, Marnie Cato, Delisa Green and Tamesha Freeman teamed up to run the four week program intended to strengthen the students’ language acquisition skills and prevent loss of these important skills during the summer.

Last week, the students focused on the theme "Our World." The children learned about other countries and, as a reward at the end of the week, parents made homemade dishes from their homelands and shared them with the class. Latin American dishes featured included Empanadas, Papusas, sweet and savory tamales and hot Horchata.

Camp Let's Go! brings together children with and without language challenges to explore their world and enhance their communication skills through a variety of thematic hands-on activities that include music, arts and crafts, and field trips.
