DCFD responded to numerous 911 calls around 10:20 am this morning reporting smoke on the roof of Takoma Education Campus. Upon their arrival, DCFD found a heavy fire in progress. The three-alarm blaze was controlled within 40 minutes and is now out. DCFD remains on the scene conducting their investigation.

The damage appears to be significant. DCPS has determined that students won't be able to return in January and plans to relocate the kids to another school are underway. A meeting with Takoma parents will be scheduled and final plans will be announced next week.

DCPS is grateful that students began their winter break last week, so there were no students in the building. There was a small staff of 10 people in the building and they all evacuated without injury.

Takoma Education Campus enrolls 328 students between grades preschool and eighth and is one of the district’s Catalyst Arts Integration schools.
