Study Ranks DC Website Among Top 4 City Sites in Country
(WASHINGTON, DC) A Brown University analysis of 1,506 government websites in the 70 largest metropolitan areas in the country ranked Washington, DC's website as the fourth best overall. The DC website was also in the top 10 in terms of security policy and privacy features.
The study, "Urban E-Government: An Assessment of City Government Websites," analyzed 70 cities based on a 0-100 point e-government index. City websites were rated on availability of phone contact information, addresses, publications, databases, portals, and number of online services. Rankings were based on criteria such as links to other sites, whether they allowed digital signatures on transactions or an option to pay via credit cards, or provided email contact information, search capabilities, and disability access.
The top-ranked city, San Diego, scored 52.9 percent. Washington was fourth with 45.4 percent. The table below ranks the 70 cities.
