Improved MAR Batch Geocoder

Story at a Glance

The MAR Geocoder is a tool that helps map address points by matching with the Master Address Repository.

The DC GIS program in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO)  continues to improve data, web services and applications provided by the Master Address Repository (MAR).  In this case, DC GIS enhanced the MAR Batch Geocoder.  This tool is  used to geocode datasets against verified addresses contained in the MAR.  The MAR helps to improve the quality of address information that varies across government systems – making it better to compare and identify activities associated with a given address.

The updates include fixing the most common errors and incorporating feedback and features requested by DC agencies and public users.  The batch geocoder is now written in C Sharp making it compatible with newer operating systems, such as Windows 7 64 bit.  New features include a start/stop function that saves processed records with the ability to stop and continue at a later time, better handling of Excel files, and an error log that users can submit to OCTO for review.

It is free and the best solution for accurate District geocoding.  Download the new version of the MAR Batch Geocoder here.
