District Agencies Partner to Update the Seasonal Leaf Collection Map
DPW and OCTO release the updated Seasonal Leaf Collection online mapping application for residents. Each fall season, DPW collects leaves from residential neighborhoods.
The updated Seasonal Leaf Collection application helps residents keep up with DPW's annual leaf collection.
The Department of Public Works (DPW) worked with OCTO GIS staff to update the Seasonal Leaf Collection site. The online mapping application is now supported by utilizing the District's ArcGIS Server with Javascript API.
Each fall season, DPW collects leaves from residential neighborhoods to reduce potential accidents and injuries resulting from slipping on wet leaves. By collecting these leaves, the District prevents catch basins (storm drains) from clogging and causing street flooding during heavy rains. DPW collects between 8,000 and 10,000 tons of leaves between November and January each year. DPW mails the annual leaf collection schedule to residents who receive trash and recycling services from the Department. Now residents can also use the Seasonal Leaf Collection online map to find out when DPW will collect leaves in District neighborhoods. Users can zoom in on a map of the city to find out the status of leaf collection or enter address information to find out when trucks will be coming by.
