OCTO has worked to update the District's geospatial data to better accurately reflect the District’s ground conditions as of 2010.
The District of Columbia requires a comprehensive range of photogrammetric mapping and GIS database updates in order to keep up with the continued redevelopment and growth in the District; It is critical to keep basemap layers current. In the past year OCTO GIS staff, in coordination with KCI Technologies and Photo Science, has worked to update various planimetric layers that better accurately reflect the District’s ground conditions as of 2010. Layers updated and published include:
Buildings Footprints
Bridges and Tunnels
Geodetic Control Points
Grates
Obscured Areas
Railroad Lines
Road Casings
Sidewalks
Swimming Pools
Stairs
Wooded Areas
The planimetric project area covers the entire District of Columbia, approximately 69 square miles. Aerial photographs, taken in April 2010, were used to update the planimetric datasets.
Several new layers were developed as well:
Recreation Courts
Wheelchair Ramps
