(Washington, DC) The District Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) announced today registration is “sold out” for DC’s Amazing Digital Scavenger Hunt, to take place Saturday, June 19, 2010. More than 200 people registered for the competition before registration was closed. The first 80 individuals to confirm their registration will be placed on teams.
“The District is an amazing place to live, with so much to offer by way of culture, history and diversity. The Digital Scavenger Hunt will give residents and visitors a rare opportunity to explore its authenticity, in one fast-paced, action-packed day,” said DC Mayor Adrian M. Fenty.
Just like the reality TV series, The Amazing Race, DC’s Amazing Digital Scavenger Hunt will send teams on a wide-ranging travel adventure. Only, instead of traveling the globe, they’ll travel all over the District of Columbia-- a fascinating world in itself.
Eight teams of 10 people will compete to complete tasks at eight locations/landmarks. Clues and team tasks will be provided upon login to a given Web page. Each team must document the completion of each task to be advanced to the next stage.
Throughout the competition, contestants will travel to clue sites via a variety of DC-specific transportation modes, including DC taxi cabs, the Metro, DC Circulator Bus, bicycle and by foot. The clues at each leg point teams to the next destination and direct them to perform a task. These challenges are related in some manner to historic and community-based experiences exclusive to Washington, DC.
The team that completes and reports all tasks in the shortest amount of time is awarded the Grand Prize--a $100 Best Buy Gift Card for each member of the winning team. The Second Prize is an iPod Shuffle for each member of the team.
Registration and participation in DC’s Amazing Digital Scavenger Hunt is FREE to District residents and visitors. The event was planned in partnership with DC Cultural Tourism and sponsored by DC’s Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking and Serve DC. Additional supporting agencies include the Office of Disability Rights, Office of Veterans Affairs, DC Department of Transportation, DC Lottery and Washington Convention and Sports Authority.
“At OCTO, we’re using technology to improve our community in many ways, including new ways for people to enjoy and learn about our great city,” said CTO Sivak. “I’m excited to give participants a chance to test their skills—and just have fun. Let the games begin!”
