BACKGROUND: After a successful premiere performance at the Kennedy Center last year, the celebrated, must-see production of Blacks in Wax is preparing for another successful celebration of Black History. Performed by the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) Scholars, a group of young people predominantly hailing from Ward 8, the 6th annual performance is set to take place at the SETLC on Friday, Feb. 24, with a repeat at the Kennedy Center on Saturday, March 3. Blacks in Wax is sponsored by the Recreation Wish List Committee in partnership with the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and features youth from the SETLC transforming from a “wax replica” of iconic, historical characters to a live portrayal.
