(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced today that he has nominated former D.C. Auditor and longtime public servant Deborah Nichols to chair the independent D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics (BOEE), completing a three-member panel that carries out the important work of enforcing District election laws and administrating elections, ballot access and voter registration.
“Deborah Nichols is an outstanding public servant with a broad understanding of the District’s laws,” said Mayor Gray. “Under her leadership, I expect the BOEE to discharge its duties effectively and efficiently.”
Ms. Nichols was most recently D.C. Auditor and had served in various capacities in the Office of the Auditor since 1983. She previously worked as a legislative aide on the D.C. Council. She holds a B.A. from Howard University and a J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She has been a member of the D.C. Bar since 1983.
