Today Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced that he had requested and accepted the resignation of his Chief of Staff, Gerri Mason Hall. The action was taken to allow the Gray administration to move forward with the business of the city.
“Gerri and I discussed this matter extensively and we both agreed that the distractions of the past few weeks have overshadowed the important work of this government,” said the Mayor. “We have agreed that this decision is in the best interest of the city.”
He further stated that, “We have major issues and challenges facing this city and the strong team that I have assembled has worked and will continue to focus attention on my top priorities of education reform, fiscal stability, jobs and economic development and public safety. ”
Mayor Gray named Paul Quander, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice, to serve as the Acting Chief of Staff until he completes his search for a replacement. Mayor Gray will also finalize his selection for a permanent director for the Department of Human Resources and is expected to make the announcement next week.
Mayor Gray thanked Ms. Hall for her dedicated service to the District and indicated that despite the challenges of the recent weeks, he has the utmost respect for Ms. Hall who demonstrated true professionalism and dignity through it all.
“She is a friend and I wish the very best for her,” said Mayor Gray.
