WHO/WHAT: Mayor Vincent C. Gray; Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry; Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial President and CEO Harry E. Johnson, Sr.; and District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Terry Bellamy will unveil street signs to mark the ceremonial designation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in honor of the great civil rights leader.

WHERE: North side of Maine Avenue SW west of 12th Street.
The D.C. Council unanimously approved an emergency resolution this summer to symbolically designate the Southeast/Southwest Freeway, the 11th Street Bridge and sections of Maine and Independence Avenues SW as Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. The drive stretches north and west from the northern end of the current Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE to the site of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial. The green street signs, fabricated by DDOT, include the District’s flag and an image of Dr. King.
MEDIA PARKING: Curbside parking will be available for media trucks on the north side of Maine Avenue SW west of 12th Street.
