(WASHINGTON, DC) - Mayor Vincent C. Gray today expressed his concern over the April 25 stabbing incident at National Zoo:
“This incident highlights the need for the National Zoo Police and other outside agencies to coordinate more closely with our Metropolitan Police Department to ensure public safety on high-turnout days and special events, such as Monday’s event at the Smithsonian National Zoo,” Mayor Gray said.
“Chief Lanier is meeting with her counterpart in the National Zoo Police to discuss this incident and work toward better coordination to prevent such events in the future.
“This incident also highlights our need – across law-enforcement agencies, educational agencies, human-services organizations and community and religious groups – to work with our kids and their families on better ways to resolve differences. I call on all District residents to join me in efforts to make our city a better and safer place to live for our children and all our citizens.”
