Payne Elementary Temporary Relocation
Buses will transport all Payne students to Eastern HS and return them to Payne ES in the afternoon for dismissal at 3:15 pm.
Payne Elementary School will relocate to Eastern High School tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 30, while utility crews work to restore power to Payne ES.
Payne families should drop off their children at Payne ES, 1445 C St. SE, tomorrow morning by 8:45 am. Buses will transport all Payne students to Eastern HS and return them to Payne ES in the afternoon for dismissal at 3:15 pm.
Afterschool programming at Payne ES will be cancelled Friday, Sept. 30.
The school lost electricity during a transformer fire Thursday evening. Students and staff in Payne's afterschool program safely evacuated the building. No one was injured.
Eastern High School, which serves only a freshman class this year, has the capacity, furniture and amenities to accommodate Payne's students and staff. Eastern is also a school meals preparation site.
Officials expect power to be restored in time for students and staff to return to Payne on Monday.
