Most DC Public Schools to Open on Time Today
Several schools will be closed Monday as crews work to restore electricity and repair damages.
Washington, DC – Malcolm X Elementary in Ward 8 has been added to the list of DC Public Schools that will be closed today, as utility crews work to restore electricity and make necessary repairs to buildings that lost power during Hurricane Irene. The majority of DC Public Schools, however, will open on-time for the second week of the 2011-2012 school year.
The following schools remain without electricity or need repairs and will not open today:
Anacostia SHS, Beers ES, Coolidge HS, LaSalle-Backus EC, Orr ES, Oyster-Adams Bilingual School (Adams Building), Oyster-Adams Bilingual School (Oyster Building), Savoy ES, Stanton ES, Thomas ES, Turner ES @ Green, Whittier EC, Winston EC and Malcolm X ES.
Families are advised to monitor the DCPS website, www.dcps.dc.gov, as well as DCPS social media (@DCPublicSchools on Twitter and facebook.com/dcpublicschools) for any updates. DCPS hopes to clear those schools as soon as possible for the safe return of teachers and students.
