Mayor Vincent C. Gray to Announce First Municipal 100-Gigabit Network in Nation at Biweekly Press Briefing
First Link in DC-CAN Project Will Enable Ultra-High-Speed Access in Underserved Areas
WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray, District Chief Technology Officer Rob Mancini, DC-Net Director Tegene Baharu and National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Director Tony Wilhelm will announce the “lighting up” of the D.C. Community Access Network (DC-CAN) 100 Gigabit Network at the Mayor’s Biweekly Press Briefing. Mayor Gray will also take questions.

BACKGROUND: This milestone makes the District the first municipality in the nation to build a network that provides Internet access at speeds 10 times faster than typical service-provider networks today. Mayor Gray and other officials broke ground on the project in March, and its first link provides ultra-high-speed access to previously underserved areas east of the Anacostia River.
