Summer vacation is imminent for thousands of DC youth. Kids will be out of school, young people will need something to do and adults will be looking for activities to occupy their free time. “One City Summer Fun ... Something for Everyone” is the answer.
The emphasis encompasses a full array of exciting activities, events and programs that will engage everyone in fun, creativity, reading, learning, exploration, healthy living, volunteerism, and employment opportunities. A comprehensive and expanded citywide partnership involving more than 30 District government agencies, community and faith-based organizations and private sector groups, “One City Summer Fun … Something for Everyone” is an integrated approach to a safe and productive summer season. There’s something of interest for everyone in every ward across the city.
The kick-off event will feature District agency directors, community-based organizations, volunteers, community leaders, children, youth, adults and seniors. There will be agency and community tables with information on services being offered. Additionally, there will be a wide array of entertainment.
One City Summer Fun is one of Mayor Gray’s safe communities initiatives. Its goal is to carry out the Mayor’s vision: we want DC residents to have an opportunity to read, play, learn, work, volunteer, be healthy, be creative, have fun, and be safe this summer.
