Washington DC) – Today, Mayor Vincent C. Gray appointed Donna Dunston as interim director of the DC Office on Aging, the agency that develops and carries out a comprehensive and coordinated system of health, education, employment, and social services for the District's elderly population, who are 60 years of age and older. Dunston, who served as the Deputy Director of the Office on Aging for policy development and implementation, for the past four years, will serve as the interim until a permanent director is named.
“I believe that Ms. Dunston will bring the kind of leadership and continuity of service that our senior residents have come to expect and enjoy,” said Mayor Gray. “She is committed to our seniors and she demonstrates a passion for work related to their well-being.”

Dunston received her graduate and undergraduate degrees from Howard University where she studied Human Nutrition and Food. In addition to serving as the program director and nutritionist at Barney Neighborhood House Senior Program, she also served assistant project director and nutritionist for the Greater Southeast Community Center for the aging.
Dunston replaces outgoing agency director Clarence Brown who was appointed in June 2007 and served under the Fenty administration. Mayor Gray expressed appreciation for Brown’s service to the District and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Mayor Gray remains committed to improving services for the elderly that promote longevity, independence, dignity and choice for senior residents.
