WASHINGTON, DC – Washington DC’s Mayor Vincent Gray today pledged his support of Freedom to Marry’s campaign to end marriage discrimination against gay and lesbian couples

"As a long-time supporter of the LGBT community, I am proud to join the over 75 mayors from across the nation who have joined Mayors for the Freedom to Marry to help advocate for marriage for gay and lesbian couples in the United States. These loving and committed couples have been prevented from sharing in the critical safety-net of protections associated with marriage for far too long, and laws preventing gay people from marrying are both unjust and harmful to any society that values family, commitment and stability."

Today, Freedom to Marry held a press conference in Washington DC featuring mayors from across the country, including Antonio R. Villaraigosa of Los Angeles, Thomas Menino of Boston, Jerry Sanders of San Diego and Annise Parker of Houston. Freedom to Marry is the campaign to win marriage nationwide.
