Therapeutic Recreation

DPR Logo

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Therapeutic Recreation division provides recreation and athletic programs for residents of all ages, including adaptive programs and facilities for persons with disabilities, by addressing the needs of individuals living with disabilities through a continuum of specialized therapeutic recreation program services.

DPR is required by federal and District laws to provide equal benefits of the services, programs or activities provided by the agency to qualified individuals with disabilities. DPR fulfills this commitment through their Reasonable Accommodation Policy.

Many of DPR's therapeutic recreation programs and services are offered at the DC Center for Therapeutic Recreation - commonly known as the TR Center - located at 3030 G Street, SE. Current services and programs include:

  • Leisure Life Skills Development
  • Adaptive Sports and Aquatics
  • Senior Programming
  • Community Inclusion Activities
  • Arts and Crafts and cultural activities
  • Special Events and Field Trips
  • Holiday and Summer Camps

Reasonable Accommodation Policy

DPR is required by federal and District laws to provide equal benefits of the services, programs or activities provided by the agency to qualified individuals with disabilities. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the DC Human Rights Act of 1977, as amended, seek to eliminate discrimination against individuals with disabilities. DPR has a legal obligation to provide reasonable accommodations as required to ensure that our programs and services are inclusive and accessible to all community members with and without disabilities. Beyond its legal obligations, DPR is fully committed to providing accommodations that will allow its community members with disabilities to participate and contribute at the highest levels.

If an individual with a disability requests a reasonable accommodation to participate in any of DPR’s services, programs or activities, please contact DPR and visit the DC Office of Disability Rights to learn more about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the DC Government’s reasonable accommodation policy.
