(Washington, DC) – The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has provided the following information about the road closures and parking restrictions for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade.
On Monday, January 16, 2012, the parade will assemble in the parking lot of the Friendship Public Charter School in the 600 block of Milwaukee Place, Southeast.
The lineup for the parade will begin at 9:30 am. Street closures will begin at 10:30 am. The parade will begin at 11 am and will conclude at 3 pm.
The following streets along the parade route will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking will be restricted:
- Southwest on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE to South Capitol Street
- South on South Capitol Street back onto Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SW
- Southwest on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SW to 4201 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SW (Leckie Elementary School) where they will disband.
The surrounding areas and streets may be affected as well.
These street closings and related parking restrictions are subject to change without notice based upon prevailing conditions.
Traffic delays may occur during this event and motorists should consider alternative routes to avoid the area if possible. The Metropolitan Police Department and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) encourage motorists to expect increased pedestrian traffic around this event and to exercise caution.
