Weekend Lane Closures and Overnight Detour Planned For New York Avenue Between Penn Street and Florida Avenue

(Washington, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced starting tomorrow night motorists will encounter single lane conditions on New York Avenue between Penn Street and Florida Avenue in northeast Washington. Westbound traffic will encounter a detour during overnight hours. These activities will be required to accommodate work associated with the New York Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation Project External Website.

The single lane condition for eastbound (outbound) New York Avenue will occur overnight between 10 pm and 6 am the following morning on Friday, February 3, Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5 (re-opening at 5 am Monday, February 6). Westbound (inbound) traffic on New York Avenue will be redirected at Penn Street to 6th Street and Florida Avenue and then back onto westbound New York Avenue.

A single lane condition will also apply to eastbound and westbound New York Avenue between Penn Street and Florida Avenue from 6 am to 10 pm on Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5.

Flaggers will be present at the start and end of the detours to keep traffic flowing and to direct motorists. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Rhode Island Avenue or H Street.

DDOT encourages all motorists to Stay Alert and follow all signs as they travel through this corridor.
