UPDATE: Closure Planned for Northbound Anacostia Freeway (I-295 & DC 295) Between Howard Road and Pennsylvania Avenue Rescheduled to Start Tomorrow Night, January 12

Due to inclement weather, the planned closure on the northbound lanes of the Anacostia Freeway (I-295/DC 295) between Howard Road and Pennsylvania Avenue in southeast Washington has been rescheduled.

(Washington, DC) Due to inclement weather, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has rescheduled the closure that was planned for tonight on the northbound lanes of the Anacostia Freeway (I-295/DC 295) between Howard Road and Pennsylvania Avenue in southeast Washington. This closure will start at 10 pm tomorrow, January 12 and remain in place through 5 am the following day. The closure will allow DDOT to demolish the existing flyover ramp over the Anacostia Freeway.

During the closure, signed detours will be posted.

Detour

  • Northbound DC 295 traffic will be detoured onto the new 11th Street inbound bridge, to M Street, SE to access the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway using the 9th Street, SE entrance ramp.
  • From the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway, motorists will access northbound DC 295(Anacostia Freeway) via Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.


Variable message signs will be in place to provide motorists advanced notice of the scheduled detour.

In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.

This closure is in addition to the previously publicized off-peak closures of the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, local streets, and I-295/DC 295.
