(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) closed Broad Branch Road, NW as a safety precaution until crews can stabilize a compromised culvert under the roadway. On Wednesday a sinkhole developed in the 4300 block of Broad Branch. Engineers who examined the site today believe the arch of the culvert has collapsed and cannot adequately support the roadway.
Broad Branch will be closed between Brandywine Road and Ridge Road until the culvert can be replaced and roadway repairs completed. Posted signs will warn travelers the road is closed to thru traffic; local traffic can still access homes near the site.
