Southbound I-295 (Anacostia Freeway) Exit Ramp to Howard Road, SE Will be Closed Overnight Starting at 10 pm Today and July 28 Between 5 am and 2 pm

The District of Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the southbound I-295 (Anacostia Freeway) exit ramp to Howard Road, SE tonight beginning at 10 pm until 5 am tomorrow morning.  This exit ramp is also scheduled to be closed on Saturday, July 28 from 5 am to 2 pm.

(Washington, DC) – The District of Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the southbound I-295 (Anacostia Freeway) exit ramp to Howard Road, SE tonight beginning at 10 pm until 5 am tomorrow morning.  This exit ramp is also scheduled to be closed on Saturday, July 28 from 5 am to 2 pm.

Additionally, the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway (I-695 EB) ramp to the 11th Street Outbound Freeway Bridge and southbound I-295 will be closed from 8 pm Friday, July 27 until 2 pm Saturday, July 28.  The M Street, SE entrance ramp to southbound I-295 will also be closed during this time.

The road closures will allow DDOT to complete final paving operations along southbound I-295 (Anacostia Freeway) from the 11th Street Outbound Freeway Bridge to Howard Road, SE.

During the road closures, signed detours will be posted to assist motorists in bypassing the work zone to return to southbound I-295.

Detours

  • During the southbound I-295 Howard Road, SE exit ramp closure, motorists will be detoured onto Suitland Parkway, then onto Firth Sterling Avenue, SE to access Howard Road, SE.
  • During the closure of the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway (I-695 EB) ramp to the 11th Street Outbound Freeway Bridge, motorists will be detoured onto South Capitol Street or to Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, to access southbound I-295.
  • During the closure of the M Street, SE ramp to southbound I-295, traffic will be detoured to the 9th Street, SE entrance ramp to eastbound Southeast Freeway, then onto Pennsylvania Avenue, SE to access southbound I-295.

Traffic control signs will be in place to provide motorists advanced notice of the scheduled detour.

In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.

This closure is in addition to the previously publicized off-peak closures of the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, local streets, Southeast/Southwest Freeway and I-295/DC 295.
