Single Lane Closures Planned for Bridge Inspections, August 13-30

(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will be conducting a series of bridge maintenance and safety inspections throughout the District between August 13 and August 30. These activities will take place during off peak hours between 10 am and 3 pm, weather permitting.

The required lane closures and inspection activities are scheduled to occur as follows:

I-395 Center Leg under Constitution Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue, Independence Avenue, Washington Avenue and Maryland Avenue

• August 13 through 14, and August 20B: Alternating right and left lane closure of the southbound I-395 Center Leg

Southeast Freeway over 7th Street, SE

• Wednesday August 15, 2012:  Left lane closure of the eastbound Southeast Freeway (I-395) over 7th Street, SE followed by left lane closure of the westbound Southeast Freeway (I-395) over 7th Street, SE

CSX Railroad over East Capitol Street

• Tuesday August 21, 2012:  Alternating right and left lane closures of eastbound East Capitol Street under the bridge followed by alternating right and left lane closures of westbound East Capitol Street under the bridge

Bridge 233 - East Capitol Street over Anacostia River

• Wednesday August 22, 2012:  Alternating right lane closure of eastbound East Capitol Street over Anacostia River followed by a right closure of westbound East Capitol Street over the Anacostia River

I-395 (SW Freeway) Ramp G-D over South Capitol Street

• Wednesday August 22, 2012:  A partial ramp closure of the Southwest Freeway westbound ramp

16th Street, NW over Military Road

• Thursday August 23, 2012:  Alternating right and left lane closures of eastbound Military Road under 16th Street, NW followed by alternating right and left lane closures of westbound Military Road under 16th Street, NW

10th Street Mall over Southwest Freeway (I-395)

• Tuesday August 28, 2012:  A right lane closure of the eastbound Southwest (I-395) under the 10th Street Mall followed by a right lane closure (adjacent to the median barrier) of the eastbound Southwest (I-395) under the 10th Street Mall
• Wednesday August 29, 2012:  A left lane closure (adjacent to Pier 2) of the westbound Southwest (I-395) under the 10th Street Mall followed by a right lane closure (adjacent to median barrier) of the westbound Southwest (I-395) under the 10th Street Mall
• Thursday August 30, 2012:  A right lane closure (adjacent to Pier 1) of the westbound Southwest (I-395) under the 10th Street Mall followed by a left lane closure (adjacent to Pier 1) of Frontage Road under the 10th Street Mall

Variable message signs will be posted to alert motorists about the closures and guide them through the area.
