(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will begin a roadway improvement project along L Street NW tonight that will include the installation of a cycletrack for eastbound bicycle traffic.
Crews will start tonight at 7 pm at 25th Street and work east towards 11th Street, milling, repaving, and line striping 2 to 3-block sections of the roadway at a time.
DDOT will be adding a separated bike lane on the north side of L Street, from New Hampshire Avenue to 12th Street, NW. The separated bike lanes will have a painted buffer zone with flexible bollards to give bicyclists more protection from cars than a typical bike lane, and prevent vehicles from illegally parking in the bike lane.
Parking will be removed from the north side of the street in order to maintain three motor vehicle travel lanes. Non-rush-our parking and loading will remain on the south side of the street.
Throughout the construction, at least one lane of traffic will be maintained. Curbside parking will be restricted during the work and motorists should look for posted “Emergency No Parking” signs.
The nighttime resurfacing work is expected to take approximately 3 weeks to complete. Additional concrete work will also be performed daily between the hours of 9:30 am and 3:00 pm.
DDOT thanks you in advance for your patience and understanding during the construction.
