WASHINGTON, DC — The National Park Service (NPS) has provided the following information about overnight closures that are currently being conducted on Canal Road, NW and the eastbound side of the Chain Bridge. These closures are required for the emergency repair work that is currently underway on the Arizona Avenue Bridge by the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division (EFLHD) and NPS.
This overnight bridge repair work is scheduled to take place through June 13, 2013. Work will take place between 8:30 pm and 5:00 am Sunday through Thursday (work will end at 5:00 am on Fridays). If necessary overnight work may also take place on Friday and Saturday.
During work hours Canal Road, NW will be entirely closed between Arizona Avenue, NW and the Chain Bridge (Clara Barton Parkway) and the eastbound side of the Chain Bridge will be closed between Chain Bridge Road, NW (North Glebe Road, NW) and Canal Road, NW (Clara Barton Parkway). In addition, partial lane closures will also apply to North Glebe Road, NW and northbound Chain Bridge Road.
Detour signs will be in place while these closures take place.
Every effort will be made to minimize traffic delays and accomplish the work in a timely manner.
Motorists are advised to observe posted construction traffic signage, obey direction provided by flaggers and exercise caution when driving near the work zone.
Pedestrians and bicyclists on the Capital Crescent Trail are advised to obey posted signs, follow detours and to use caution near the construction area. The trail will remain open to all visitors during daytime hours. During repair work to the Arizona Avenue Bridge, a portion of the existing concrete deck will be removed. Please use caution near the construction area.
