Overnight Closures Start at 9 pm on February 14 and 15

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the eastbound lanes of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway between 11th Street, SE and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and the 9th Street, SE entrance ramp to the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway starting at 9 pm on February 14 through 5 am the following day. Motorists will also encounter a left lane closure on the westbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway along this stretch during this time. On February 15, the westbound lanes of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway between 11th Street, SE and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE will be closed from 9 pm to 5 am the next day. During this time, the left lane of the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway along this stretch will also be closed. These closures will allow crews to perform work over the Southeast/Southwest Freeway to build a new freeway bridge.
During the lane closures, signed detours will be posted.
Detours
- During the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway lane closures, motorists will be detoured to South Capitol Street, then onto northbound I-295/DC 295 to access Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.
- During the westbound Southeast/Southeast Freeway lane closures, westbound traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE will be detoured onto southbound I-295/DC 295 and then to South Capitol Street to access the Southeast/Southwest Freeway, Interstate 395, and destinations located via M Street, SE.
Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place to provide motorists advanced notice of the scheduled detour.
In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.
This closure is in addition to the previously publicized off-peak closures of the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, local streets, and I-295/DC 295.
