(Washington, DC) In order to resolve a utility issue, power will be cut to the street and sign lights on the 14th Street Bridges (NB/SB/HOV) from 10 pm to 5 am tonight, Tuesday, February 22 and again Thursday night, February 24. The Federal Aviation Administration lights will also be affected during these times.
A short lane closure in the far right lane will be maintained on the northbound bridge, on the north side, to provide access to the utility lines through an existing manhole. Two portable light towers will be used within the lane closure.
Each power outage will affect different portions of the bridges’ lighting:
Tuesday, February 22, 10 pm – Wednesday, February 23, 5 am:
- All street lights on the bridge (NB/SB/HOV) will be out.
- All sign lights on the bridges (NB/SB/HOV) will be out, with the exception of the two sign lights prior to entering the District via 14th Street or continuing on I-395N.
- FAA navigational lead in light will be out.
Thursday, February 24, 10 pm – Friday, February 25, 5 am:
- Two sign lights prior to entering the District via 14th Street or continuing on I-395N will be out. All other sign lights will be on.
- Waterway navigational light on the NB bridge will be out.
- FAA navigational lead in light will be out.
During these outages, visibility on the road and of all overhead signage will remain sufficient enough not to warrant the use of back-up generators or portable lighting, with the exception of the lane closure area. However, all drivers should still use extra caution and stay alert during this time.
