New Ramp from Northbound I-295 (Anacostia Freeway) to 11th Street, SE Set to Open on or About October 3

(Washington, DC) – On or about October 3 the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will open a newly constructed ramp that provides access from northbound I-295(Anacostia Freeway) to 11th Street, SE.  

The opening of this ramp provides a new traffic route from northbound I-295 (Anacostia Freeway) to Historic Anacostia and the Capitol Hill/Navy Yard area via 11th Street, SE and the 11th Street local bridge.

A new outbound ramp from the 11th Street local bridge to southbound I-295(Anacostia Freeway) is scheduled to open by mid-October 2012. See map below for details.

Starting at 8 pm on Tuesday, October 2 the Howard Road, SE entrance ramp to northbound I-295 will be closed overnight to complete the final paving and tie-in work for the new ramp opening. Northbound DC 295 will also be reduced to a single lane between Howard Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. The Howard Road entrance ramp and each of the lanes on northbound DC 295 will be re-opened by 5 am the following morning.

During the ramp closure, signed detours will be posted.

Detours:

Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour along Howard Road, SE to Anacostia Park Drive, SE then onto eastbound Suitland Parkway to access northbound I-295.

Electronic message signs will be in place to provide motorists advanced notice of the scheduled detour and the new traffic pattern.

In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.

This closure is in addition to the previously publicized off-peak closures of the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, local streets, Southeast/Southwest Freeway and I-295/DC 295.
