New Ramp from Northbound I-295 (Anacostia Freeway) to 11th Street, SE Rescheduled to Open October 4

(Washington, DC) – The opening of the newly constructed ramp that connects northbound I-295(Anacostia Freeway) to 11th Street, SE has been moved to Thursday, October 4.  The ramp was scheduled to open tomorrow; however, due to today’s inclement weather the opening has been delayed.

Starting at 8 pm on Wednesday, October 3 the Howard Road, SE entrance ramp to northbound I-295 will be closed overnight to complete the final paving and tie-in work for the new ramp opening.  Northbound DC 295 will also be reduced to a single lane between Howard Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.  The Howard Road entrance ramp and each of the lanes on northbound DC 295 will be re-opened by 5 am the following morning.  These activities were originally scheduled to take place tonight and were rescheduled due to due to today’s inclement weather.

During the ramp closure, signed detours will be posted.

Detours:

Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour along Howard Road, SE to Anacostia Park Drive, SE then onto eastbound Suitland Parkway to access northbound I-295.

Electronic message signs will be in place to provide motorists advanced notice of the scheduled detour and the new traffic pattern.

In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.

This closure is in addition to the previously publicized off-peak closures of the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, local streets, Southeast/Southwest Freeway and I-295/DC 295.
