Full Closures Planned for Outbound 11th Street Bridge

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced it plans to close the outbound 11th Street Bridge and related ramps to complete overhead girder construction work required for the 11th Street Bridge Project.

This work was originally scheduled for January 26 - 27, but was postponed due to inclement weather conditions.

The closure is now scheduled to start at 10 pm on Wednesday, February 2 and continue through 5 am on Thursday, February 3, weather permitting. The set-up activity for this closure will begin at 8 pm.

In the event of inclement weather this work may be rescheduled to occur starting at 10 pm on Thursday, February 3 through 5 am on Friday, February 4.

Inbound access to the 11th Street Bridge will remain open.

Detours:

  • During the closures, signed detours will be posted for motorists wanting to access southbound Interstate 295 or Martin Luther King Jr. SE Avenue.
  • To reach I-295, motorists will be directed to travel the Southeast-Southwest Freeway to either South Capitol Street or Pennsylvania Avenue where they can access the highway.
  • To reach Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, motorists will be directed to travel east on the Southeast-Southwest Freeway to Pennsylvania Avenue, south on DC 295/Interstate 295 to the Howard Road exit, and then east on Howard Road SE.

These closures are in addition to previously publicized off-peak closures of the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, portions of the Southeast-Southwest Freeway, Interstate 295/DC 295 and local streets through March 22, 2011 for project construction.

DDOT encourages all motorists traveling in this corridor to be alert and follow all road signs posted.
