In preparation for the Independence Day holiday weekend, traffic patterns on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE will be changed to accommodate outbound traffic.
(Washington, DC) In preparation for the Independence Day holiday weekend, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is advising motorists that traffic patterns on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE will be changed at 12 pm today to accommodate outbound traffic.
Pennsylvania Avenue, from the Sousa Bridge to Southern Avenue, will be configured with two lanes of eastbound traffic and one lane of westbound traffic, from noon to 6:30 pm today. After 6:30 pm, the travel lanes will be switched back to their normal configuration with two lanes inbound and one lane outbound.
On Monday, July 4, at 7:30 pm, the traffic patterns will change again—with one lane westbound and two lanes eastbound to accommodate visitors leaving the city after the fireworks. This traffic pattern will remain in place through 6 am on Tuesday, July 5.
In addition, DDOT has directed its contractors to suspend any lane closures on road construction projects, beginning at noon today through noon on Tuesday, July 5. Contractors will be able to work behind barriers or outside of the travel lanes.
