(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the right lane and shoulder on northbound DC 295 between Benning Road and Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE during daytime off-peak traffic hours through Friday, December 21 for work related to the Parkside Pedestrian Bridge Project.

Weather permitting, the closures will occur from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm each day while crews conduct geotechnical drilling for the project.

Northbound and southbound DC 295 will be kept open at all times between Benning Road NE and Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE.

With design almost 100 percent complete, DDOT anticipates starting project construction in 2013.

Upon completion, the Parkside Pedestrian Bridge will provide safe, well-lit, disabilities-accessible pedestrian and bicycle travel between neighborhoods and a local Metro station now separated by DC-295 and two sets of railroad tracks just north of the Benning Road interchange.

Specifically, the bridge will more directly and safely connect the Mayfair neighborhood and proposed Parkside development to its west with the Minnesota Avenue Metro and Bus Transfer Stations, Downtown Ward 7 and the Deanwood Community to its east.
