(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced construction on the Adams Morgan Streetscape Project will begin next week. The project will include the reconstruction of 18th Street, NW from Florida Avenue to Columbia Road, as well as pedestrian and bicycle safety enhancements, and aesthetic improvements including new landscaping and lighting.

Construction for this 15-month project is scheduled to start on or about March 1 and continue through May 2012. The work will be done in phases, beginning at 18th Street and Florida Avenue and proceeding north on 18th Street. Construction activities will take place between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm, Monday through Saturday. One lane will be maintained in each direction for traffic, and curbside parking will be restricted as needed.

“We want to stress that Adams Morgan will remain open for business throughout this project,” said DDOT Interim Director Terry Bellamy, “And we will make every effort to minimize the impact on merchants and residents, particularly on nights and weekends when there is more vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the neighborhood.”

DDOT has hired a Community Relations Liaison and established a field office for the project at 2314 18th Street, NW. For more information please visit www.adamsmorganstreetscapeproject.com.
