DDOT Continues Safety Inspections on Major Bridges and Tunnels

A series of safety inspections on major bridges and tunnels throughout the District will be conducted beginning Thursday, January 12, 2012 through Friday, January 20, 2012.

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will continue to conduct a series of safety inspections on major bridges and tunnels throughout the District beginning Thursday, January 12, 2012 through Friday, January 20, 2012. These inspections will be conducted during off peak hours between 10 am and 3 pm, Monday through Friday, weather permitting.

  • Single lane closures will be required to conduct these activities in a safe manner.
  • Motorists are advised to stay alert while traveling through these locations.
  • Temporary signs will be in place to alert and guide the traveling public.

Inspection Schedule / Lane Closures
Ramp from Whitehurst Freeway to I-66 over Potomac Parkway, 27th Street and Rock Creek [Bridge No. 1301]
Thursday, January 12, 2012
There will be a right shoulder closure of the ramp from Whitehurst Freeway to I-66.
Southbound Anacostia Freeway Exit Ramp to South Capitol Street [Bridge No. 1015]
Friday, January 13, 2012
There will be right and left alternating closures of the exit ramp to South Capitol Street followed by alternating right and left lane closures of South Capitol Street under the ramp.
Anacostia Freeway over Pennsylvania Avenue [Bridge No. 1000]

There will be a right lane closure of eastbound Anacostia Freeway over Pennsylvania Avenue followed by a right lane closure of westbound Anacostia Freeway.

There will be a right lane closure of southbound Pennsylvania Avenue under Anacostia Freeway followed by a right lane closure of northbound Pennsylvania Avenue.

There will be alternating right and left lane closures of northbound E Street Expressway under Virginia Avenue and New Hampshire Avenues.

There will be alternating right and left lane closures of the northbound tunnel.

Thursday, January 19, 2012
There will be alternating right and left lane closures of southbound E Street Expressway under Virginia Avenue and New Hampshire Avenues.
