(Washington, DC) Construction related to the 9th Street Bridge Project will require the closure of the right inbound lane on New York Avenue, NE under the 9th Street Bridge this weekend, weather permitting. Beginning tomorrow at 9:30 am, after the morning rush hour, the far right lane of inbound New York Avenue will close to allow a new concrete pavement base to be poured and cured in the area. This lane will reopen Monday, April 4 by 6 am in advance of the morning rush hour.

It is expected that all concrete will be poured on Friday, April 1 and the extended closure is necessary to allow adequate time for the concrete base to set prior to subjecting it to traffic. To minimize the impact to traffic in this busy corridor, this closure is scheduled to take place over the weekend and all lanes will reopen to traffic for Monday’s morning rush hour.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes during this period to avoid delays. Viable alternate routes for vehicular commuters have been identified and are available for further exploration at www.FixingNewYorkAve.com External Website.

  • Option 1: Montana Avenue to Rhode Island Avenue to North Capitol Street
  • Option 2: West Virginia Avenue to Florida Avenue
  • Option 3: South Dakota Avenue to Rhode Island Avenue to North Capitol Street
  • Option 4: I-295 to two potential exits: Benning Road or East Capitol Street

Temporary signs will be in place to alert and guide the traveling public in this area. DDOT encourages all motorists to stay alert as they travel in this corridor.

All construction-related work and dates are subject to change, depending on weather, material and contractor availability or other unforeseen conditions.
