The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is postponing the closures that where scheduled to start tonight on the westbound lanes of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway between Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and 11th Street, SE.

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the westbound lanes of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway between Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and 11th Street, SE from 10 pm to 5 am November 14 through November 17, 2011. During this time the entrance ramp to the westbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway from Pennsylvania Avenue, SE will also be closed.

These lane closures and traffic stoppages will be required to install bridge girders over the Southeast/Southwest Freeway for a new freeway bridge.

While the westbound lanes of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway are closed signed detours will be posted.

Motorists will also encounter 20-minute traffic stoppages on the Southeast/Southwest Freeway eastbound lanes between 9th Street, SE and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE including the entrance ramp to the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway from 9th Street, SE during the same time period.

Detour

Motorists traveling westbound on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE will be detoured to southbound I-295 and then onto South Capitol Street to access the westbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway, Interstate 395, and destinations located via M Street, SE.

Variable message signs will be in place to provide motorists advanced notice of the scheduled detour.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.

In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.

This closure is in addition to the previously publicized off-peak closures of the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, local streets, and I-295/DC 295.
