WASHINGTON, DC — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is eliminating the west side parking on 11th Street, SE between K Street and L Street starting today, Monday, February 4, 2013. Traffic will also be shifted to the east, maintaining one lane of traffic in each direction.
The elimination of parking and realignment of travel lanes are needed so crews can begin demolition and reconstruction of the old 11th Street Bridge over the SE/SW Freeway. This work will be completed in two stages over the next several months, beginning with the demolition and reconstruction of the west side of the bridge (stage 1), followed by demolition/reconstruction of the east side (stage 2).
The west sidewalk will be closed and all pedestrians shifted to the east sidewalk. The bike lanes in both directions will also be temporarily closed - bicyclists should share the roadway with motorists through the work zone area.
